Kapchorwa River Bank Management and Conservation of Mt. Elgon National Park Buffer Area
Kapchorwa Community Development Association (KACODA) is a community based organization engaged in the promotion of sustainable community development initiatives such as tree planting, improved agricultural practices, agroforestry and conservation education activities.

These activities are aimed at conserving the Mt. Elgon National park buffer area, indigenious tree species and the river banks from degradation since this river forms an important catchment area for the river Nile ecosystem.

The project area experiences high rates of population growth, land fragmentation and degradation, biodiversity loss,degradation of river banks for various uses as a result of unsustainable human practices displacements from the Mt. Elgon national park and cattle rustling from the Karamojongs and household poverty resulting from lack of sustainable livelihood options.

The GEF focal area addressed is land degradation.The project partners include the district local government and other stakeholders such as NARO. The local community is actively involved in the promotion of project activities at the grassroot.
