Environmental Conservation of Kadam Ecosystem
Environmental Conservation of Kadam Ecosystem is a project being implemted by Chekwii Development Association (CHEDEA), a local community based organisation involve in the promotion of sustainable community development initiatives for the forest ecosystem conservation. The project's objective is to conserve Kadam forest ecosystem through the use of participatory approaches. Activities include among others conservation education,agroforestry, diversification of livelihood options to enble the local community get income and improve on their livelihoods and reduce pressure on the forest resources.
The GEF focal area addressed is biodiversity conservation. The semi arid forest biodiversity is being threatened by unsustainable human activities, pastrolism and rural poverty. The project activities aim at conserving this important ecosystem that forms the rain belt of Karamoja from degradation since the population of Karamoja are pastrolist.
