Enhancing environmentally sustainable livelihood of Batsumber community by beekeeping and fruit tree cultivating
Udleg area in Batsumber sum, where grant activities will take place was one of the largest cultivation areas in Mongolia during the past socialist period. From the beginning of the current transition into a market economy, most of vegetable growing fields were abandoned due to economic failure. Abandoned lands have been covered with weeds and local communities lost their means of livelihood. The grant is given to the local community to establish a small fruit tree plantation at a piece of the abandoned lands and 6 colonies of bee so that others may follow them in the near future. It's a good idea to run the beekeeping in parallel with fruit tree planting activity, because beekeeping and fruit cultivation are well known mutually supportive activities. At the end of the project implementation at least 4 families will have sustainable income sources by supporting land and nature with about 2000 fruit trees and 8 bee colonies.
