COMMUNITY BASED DEGRADED LAND RESTORATION IN SANGA, KUKPEHI, DUKPOMO, KPUNGING, AND KPACHI FOR THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION OF THE PEOPLE
The project seeks to develop local capacities and capability in land restoration and sustainable management of natural resources through improved soil fertility techniques, wildfire control, natural regeneration, enrichment planting and sustainable livelihood support activities.

The goal of this project is to restore degraded lands in Sanga, Kukpehi, Dukpomo, Kpunging, and Kpachi communities for the socio-economic transformation of the people.
The project outputs and activities are:
OBJECTIVE 1
To introduce soil fertility improvement techniques and agro-forestry

OUTPUT 1
Agro-forestry and soil improvement technologies introduced in five (5) communities

ACTIVITIES
1.1 Conduct baseline study on the environmental status as well as the knowledge, practice and use of improved agro-forestry techniques in the communities.
1.2 Organize sensitization programmes for communities and resource persons
1.3 Train communities in soil fertility techniques and agro-forestry
1.4 Assist communities to prepare compost
1.5 Assist groups to prepare land and apply technologies

OBJECTIVE 2
To replant degraded areas

OUTPUT 2
50 hectares of degraded land planted with fast growing/leguminous trees


ACTIVITIES
2. 1 Prepare participatory land use plan
2.2 Establish community nurseries at Kukpehi
2.3 Training of communities in nursery management
2.4 Strengthen community groups to promote planting of trees
2.5 Assist individuals and households to plant woodlots


OBJECTIVE 3
To encourage natural regeneration and the creation of a buffer zone around settlements.

OUTPUT 3
100 hectares of land put under natural regeneration

ACTIVITIES
2.1 Form, train and equip fire volunteers
2.2 Identify natural regeneration areas and construct fire line
2.3 Identify Natural Regeneration areas with signpost
2.4 Enrichment planting of degraded areas using Natural Regeneration

OBJECTIVE 4
To introduce improved clay wood fuel stoves

OUTPUT 4
Improved wood fuel stoves introduced to households in five (5) communities

ACTIVITIES
4.1 Community sensitization and demonstration
4.2 Training of trainers in construction of improved stoves
4.3 Assist households to adapt improved stoves

OBJECTIVE 5
To enhance livelihood activities

OUTPUT 5
Support groups by providing management skills and revolving credit

ACTIVITIES
5.1 Sensitization of communities
5.2 Formation of trust groups
5.3 Training of groups in records/book keeping, management etc
5.4 Formulation of operational guidelines for the revolving fund
5.5 Implementation of revolving loan fund for trust groups
