Birds protection on the extensive grasslands and gravel pits in Western Pomerania
Project was awarded in the contest organized by WFOSiGW and GEF/SGP for biodiversity protection in Zachodniopomorskie Voivodship.
Project is addressing two problems:
1. active protection of seminatural meadows and pastures and involvement of farmers in restitution of extensive use of this land.Project will use existing a very new experience of impelmentation eco-agrosystem of assistance from EU funds (1st year) with a main focus on a proper management.Collection of lesson learned during the first period and analysis done together with experts from the sczecin University and agricultural adviser should ended with a simple, readable manual how to manage various types of meadows and pastures. evaluation of the first year is strongly expected by the Miistry of Environment for ptential corrections of approved policy.
2.Gravel pits in zachodniopomorskie Voivodship became a habitat for endangered birds from the Polish Red List - shelduck ( Tadoma tadoma),little tern (Sterna albifrons),common tern(Sterna hirundo),oystercatcher (haematopus ostralegus);this part of project aims in creation of a model of a proper management of exploatation of gravel pits preserving habitats of birds in coopeation with companies in 3 pilot gravel pits with further extention of activities based on gained experience to the rest of intervention gravel pits.Preserving sandy islands, clearing the escarpments and other works to be done in order to secure safe habita for birds.
educational component will focus on training of gravel pits management in nature conservatio, publishing a manual with suggested forms of protection without colision with exploatation or modifications in it through negotiations and joint actions..
