Energy created by wind (Increasing public awareness on potential alternative sources of energy for the Aral Sea Region by supplying a local maternity hospital with a wind power turbine and by distributing educational materials on climate change)
The Aral Sea is a region of ecological catastrophe caused by human beings nowadays. Not well considered policy of natural resources utilisation, abundant water consumption from the Amudarya and Syrdarya rivers for agricultural utilization have a huge negative impact not only on environment but on the population of this region. Economic crisis in Kazakhstan aggravates the situation. High level of unemployment, low income, population migration, decrease of life expectancy, growth of infant mortality rate and infectious diseases - it is not a full list of environmental crisis consequences. It has a special impact on status of women and children.

The project «Energy created by wind» is closely connected with the solutions of some social and ecological problems of the Aral region. Energy supply of Aralsk city is ensured by electric energy produced in the other regions of the country and abroad. Difficult economic situation in the Republic, closing of many enterprises in Aralsk and the rayon resulted in shortage of city budget and insolvency of the administration and population for consumed electric power. As result frequent cuts off in the whole city without any schedule and turn have been taking place. According to practical observations it happens 3-4 times a day for 3-4- hours in each cut off, with total cuts off up to 16 hours a day. Due to this houses, administrative, industrial buildings as well as schools, kindergartens, hospitals of the city are without power. Cuts off at the hospital harden medical services provision and can result in tragedy. As it was needed to postpone surgery operations several times. For emergency situations the hospital has its own independent benzene electric station which requires additional supply of fuel and lubricant and a lot of time to begin operation as well as additional financial resources. It is not affordable for the hospital.

Tasks of the project.
?To provide sustainable supply of electric power to the most important maternal and surgery operations departments of the Maternity House of the Aralsk city using renewable source of energy of the wind power turbine
?To increase level of ecological education of the population with a perception of careful use of nature; propaganda of renewable sources of energy, dissemination of information and successful experience of utilization.
?To involve community in activities aimed at improvement of the ecological situation.

Expected results:
1. Guaranteed electric energy supply to the maternal and surgery operations departments of the maternity house of the Aralsk city by wind power turbine.
2. Setting the base for ecological education of the population and school children.
3. Organisation of ecological education and a demonstrative example showing the advantages of renewable energy utilization.
4. Reduction of the maternity house costs for payment for electricity and utilization of these funds for other needs.
5. Demonstration of integration opportunities of ecology, economy and health care on the basis of this example of energy production for the maternity house.
6. Involvement of the local population in solution of ecological and health problems.
7. Growth of the local NGO role and activation of its activity.
