The project aims to develop an integrated management of land, water, and wildlife resources of Mahel region, in contribute to biodiversity conservation, and mitigation of inadequate uses of these resources. The project will work with small farmers and traditional livestock producers in providing alternative livelihoods like bee-keeping, planting of fruit, native and exotic trees, control bushfires, limit forest encroachment, produce vegetables, raise livestock, provide safe drinking water, and undertake environmental education campaigns, all aiming to change the attitude of the villagers with respect to use of local resources. This area is of significance because is on the transition of Mopane, and Miombo ecotones, complemented by a mixture of water pans, small wetlands, and mixed savanna. Is rich in terrestrial wildlife (birdlife, flora and fauna) that can provide livelihoods and income if adequately managed.
