Ecological Aquaculture for Environmentally Friendly and Sustainable Food Production in Antigua & Barbuda
Ecological Aquaculture for Environmentally Friendly and Sustainable Food Production in Antigua & Barbuda
This project is presented by the Antigua Fisheries? Alliance Inc. in partnership with the St. John?s Fishermen Cooperative Society Ltd. with support from the Government of Antigua and Barbuda.

The project combines aquaculture and hydroponics into an aquaculture/aquaponics system where specific species of fish are farmed and the waste from the ponds are used to grow vegetables and other crops. This project is presented as an option to fishermen who are overfishing the inshore waters of Antigua/Barbuda and as an example of biological recyling, albeit in a hybrid environment. If successful, this project has the potential for replication and upscaling.

Among the outputs of the planning process is the preparation of a business plan and the establishment of the appropriate management mechanism. The project will also have a significant public awareness and education component.
