Community Banespati Gueetha (Bio-Briquette) Project
Community Banespati Gueetha (Bio-Briquette) Project
The project is in continuum of Community Briquette Project (NEP/03/12) after its initial success in propagating the old technology of briquette making. Banespati Gueetha is a Nepali name for beehive bio-briquette made from biomass. The briquette has an added value as it is produced from the noxious forest killer weeds-Eupatorium Adenophorum that has not only invaded the forest land but also the agriculture land. The resulting briquettes are light and burn for over an hour with little smoke. The residue is also good manure for the farm yards. The project will help to protect forest by eradication of Eupatorium through briquette making, which serves as the alternative to kerosene, LPG gas and fuel wood. The project will also establish briquette making units and address livelihood activities of the communities through making of briquette and plantation of Non Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) in the open space after the removal of the weeds.
