Updating of the Conceptual Model and Site Strategy for COMPACT Phase II
Updating of the Conceptual Model and Site Strategy for COMPACT Phase II
The objective of this project is to update the Conceptual Model and Site Strategy for the Community Management of Protected Areas Conservation Programme (COMPACT) which has demonstrated constructive ways of involving Belizean communities in the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in and around the protected areas of the BBRRS-WHS. This project will enable the COMPACT Phase II programme to respond to the dynamics of the current situation; namely, the range of natural, social and economic impacts and project responses that ensure sustainable use of this critical resource.
It is being implemented by the Belize Enterprise for Sustainable Techonology in collaboration with another partner NGO (Programme for Belize) who are responsible for updating the information in the Baseline Assessment of the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System - World Heritage Site.

At the completion of this project the following outputs will be delivered:

1) A revised Conceptual Model for the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System - World Heritage Site compiled and endorsed.

2) The mission, goal and purpose for the COMPACT Phase II Site Strategy for Belize reviewed and revised, as agreed by consensus, and based on the updated Conceptual Model.

3) Geographical and thematic areas for project-supported interventions identified through the Conceptual Model and prioritized based on the scope of the updated COMPACT Site Strategy.

4) A plan of action to bring about policy level support for the allocation of resources to mitigate threats to the BBRRS-WHS.

5) A Site Strategy for the implementation of COMPACT Phase II developed.

6) A monitoring plan for the updated Site Strategy that includes an output to purpose review of the COMPACT Programme will be articulated. The monitoring plan will provide the set of indicators that will be used to measure the expected results and the purpose of the programme. It will also document the relevant assumptions.
