Energy Saving Systems of Central Heating
Energy Saving Systems of Central Heating
Reduction of heat energy loss through introduction of modern systems of heat energy transmission and distribution in the Albert Foundation Center in Gdansk.
The Albert Foundation Cenetr for homeless people in Gdansk, near port, covers 2.8 ha area with 12 buildings occupied by 600 people (including 130 children).Previously it was a camp of volunteer working group (young people of age 18-21) constructed in very early 1970s, in a very poor condition pavilons and barracks with totally unefficient heat distribution system, also in a fatal state, with permanent accidents and leakings.According to expertises the whole distribution system will not survive next winter and a very serious thread to 600 people their existence;
Project Umbrella UNDP supported energy audit and project design (what should be done in the first stage, then - 2nd stage coukld be financed from savings based on modernisation of the whole distribution system and installation of electronic monitoring of heat needed according to changing weather conditions.The chain of good-will partners was extended to 2 private companies which offered construction ,installation work as their in-kind contribution.
Project initially was put on "reserve" shelf, for further consideration.Site visit of 4 NSC members and NC in December 1994 caused in recognition of top priority due to very high social needs of vulnerable group and possible quick and substantial ecological effects (modernisation of distribution system, replacement of old corroded pipes for very modern ones (pre-isolated), electonic system of monitoring according to audit will give reduction of heat from 1.6 MW to 0.8MW, lowering GHG emission.l
