Commercialization of Lemon Grass Cultivation and Processing
Commercialization of Lemon Grass Cultivation and Processing
Through initial project funding from the UNDP-GEF/SGP, and additional funding from the Canadian Fund, NWESE initiated a model project on community-based cultivation of lemongrass to control land degradation while at the same time adding value to it by processing into commercial products. NWESE through this project now seeks to complete the commercialization of the cultivation and processing of the lemongrass so as to make the model project sustainable. To achieve this, the project will improve on its facilities for commercial processing of the lemongrass, complete the development of lemongrass-based commercial products and build the capacity of NWESE to manage the business enterprise. In addition, the project seeks to increase awareness among the community in Ntungamo district about cultivation of lemon grass as a useful strategy for controlling land degradation.
