Promoting organic farming in the rural area of Bat Lahia by establishing a demonstration site and training farmers on effective organic farming practices
The project will focus on promoting sustainable organic farming methods to eliminate the extensive use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers, restore the soil fertility and prevent land degradation. The project will establish an experimental central station in the northern area of Gaza Strip close to Wadi Bait Hannon on 8 dunums and demonstrate the same method in 8 different dunums. The project will also build the capacity of 60 farmers through conducting 3 training workshops to introduce composting techniques, IPM, grounding for organic farming, testing chemicals residues on the agricultural products and its effect on human health. Ultimately, farmers will save up to 10,000 to 8,000 that were previously paid to chemically controlled cultivation. By using the organic farming method, farmers will reduce the chemical consumptions for agriculture by 1100 kgm.
