Improvement of household livelihood for Mabungo Village through rehabilitation of Mabungo Furrow
Mabungo village is situated in a semi arid areain the lowland of Mt. kilimanjaro, this area receives very low rainfall whereby only irrigation can assure reliable crop production. A total of 250 families depend on Mabungo furrow as the source of water for domestic use, livestock as well as for irrigation. The furrow has a long history way back 1940. It was constructed by the villagers under the Chief leadership.
The furrow was not in use after the intake was washed away by floods in 2004 rendered abstraction of water from the river to be difficult. This project intends to help the community to rehabilitate this farrow to be able to revive the irrigation system. The project also intend to enhance the community with proper water management in order to improve agricultural production.
