Conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity resources in the Rwenzori Mountain Region
This project seeks to mobilise the communities that live in close proximity with the ?Rwenzori Mountain National Park? (RMNP) to proactively take responsibility in the conservation and protection of the mountain ecosystem through creation of awareness and community involvement in biodiversity conservation, collection and documentation of indigenous knowledge, promotion of ex-situ conservation and introduction of multipurpose plant varieties for soil erosion control and production of essential oils.

Capacity - Building Component
Biogarden, a registered CBO operating in the project area to preserve and protect indigenous knowledge will be developed as a conservation site and information centre during the project. A tree nursery demonstration, learning and seed multiplication site will be developed to improve farmer access to seed and germplasm.
Gender Focus
SATNET has a gender-integrated approach to implementation of its activities and recognizes the central role of women in the management of natural resources. The project principle targets are households? members who will be empowered with knowledge and skills to improve their livelihood through improved management of their biodiversity and soils.
