Rehabilitation of the Community Coastal Spring
Rehabilitation of the Community Coastal Spring
The project proposed by the Village Council of Lalomalava on Savaii Island, is the rehabilitation and upgrading of the community natural water spring. The spring is a communal resource that has supported the community before receiving tap water to every household, and now with the cost of water metering increasing it has become unaffordable for many poor families to pay their water bills thus returning to use the spring for domestic purposes such as bathing and washing. The spring was in good condition before cyclone Heta, which destroyed many coastal springs in Samoa located in coastal lowlying areas. The community would like to upgrade their coastal spring because it is serving a vital purpose for community activities, as it is supporting poor families who uses the spring frequently for domestic purposes.

The project objectives are;
Capacity building on water resource management
Conduct a technical assessment on appropriate ways of upgrading the spring, and reducing impact from continuous tropical cyclones
