The Village of Aopo had always been blessed with its rich forest resources, however over the years the community had been forced to log its forestland because of limited cash resources to pay for the growing expenses in standard of living such as school fees for children, church obligations and family support. We the matai of Aopo Village felt that we should work hard to replenish our main resource, which is our forestland not only for its ecological values but also the incentive it provides to support our subsistence way of living.
Project objectives;
Develop a nursery of indigenous Samoan trees for every matai (chief) to replant trees
Disseminate seedlings to all members of the community and encourage replanting
Conduct seminar on environment educational programmes on the importance of sustainable land management
Develop a business plan on better methods of income-generating activities from the conservation of their forest resource
