Musantuthu Environmental Awareness Project in Mapoka
Deep and very dangerous dongas have formed in the village and the soil is easily carried away by wind as a result of bare ground. The area has lost a lot of vegetation cover and consequently has lost its scenic and natural beauty. In addition the area is endowed with archaelogical artefacts which are being ruined due to vandalism. The community wishes to mobilise itself through dialogoue and interaction to find ways of managing their natural resources in a sustainable manner and eventually benefit from such management.
Through dialogue and interaction the community and stakeholders will collectively find ways of mitigating against land degradation and loss of archaelogical artefacts. Kgotla meetings and a workshop will be used for raising awareness and to facilitate consensus building and eventually attainment of legal status by the community. The community will identify the site that will eventually be used as a demonstration site, and also ways of protecting the archaelogical artefacts.
