Capacity Building for Mekgatshi Conservation Trust
Capacity Building for Mekgatshi Conservation Trust
Mekgatshi Conservation Trust intends to undertake a look-and-learn tour which will enable the Mekgatshi communities to link conservation based natural resources management within their area to improvement of their livelihoods and development. Through exchange and sharing of information and ideas with other CBOs, they will be able to learn about tourism ventures activities and the required business skills to run/manage such business enterprises. This will promote the feeling of ownership of the resources and the project as they will see the development projects and tangible benefits emanating from the sustainable utilisation of natural resources. Through the diverse projects the communities will be able to appreciate the hands-on-experience for a successful project.

Notable Community Participation
Community participation has been seen as a key element for the sucsses of this project hence each village of all the 11 villages has a village Trust Committe (VTC) which is responsible for the day, today running of the trust. The VTCs responsibilities include giving progress reports on their activities to the main board as well as raising funds for the trust.
Project sustainability
The workshop came up with a Management Plan for the trust. The VTCs were asked to raise funds in order to assist their trust to have an account. Each village was requested to contribute P100 but at the present moment only four villages did contribute and this are Mabutsane, Khakhea, Keng and Kokong. The Department of Wildlife and National Parks offered the trust a hunting quota for the area and those animals can be sold to the interested individuals.
