Project Characteristics and Results
Policy Impact
? Complementing the work of the Gujarat Land Development Corporation, about 10,000 saplings of various species have been provided to individual farmers to support the farm bunds. Fodder seeds and root slips have also been supplied which influnces the government policy and the effort has been by individual agencies of the government working on their sectoral priorities; a multi-disciplinary collaboration of government department like Forest, Rural Development, Agriculture, Land development, Irrigation, Revenue and finance to address the problem in holistic way is the need of hour.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
It is also an immediate necessity that the dependencies of the community on the common lands are recognized and long-term tenurial rights to the community over ravines-common land be granted. This would enlist individual farmers as well promote collective action by community as whole in the project of ravine stabilization.
