Project Background

SPG has two projects in Yakhkesh area:

1. ?Promoting the adoption of renewable energies in rural areas and related activities, establishing two practical sites in Yakh-kesh Mountains? - IRA-G52-2002- 022 (in short referred to as GEF/SGP Yakhkesh Biogas project)


2. ?Promotion of Integrated Management and Training for Biodiversity Conservation with Public Participation in Behshahr Forests, Iran (in line with the GEF/SGP financed Biogas Project in Yakhkesh Region)? ? IRA-G52-2003-032 (in short referred to as Yakhkesh alternative livelihoods and increased manure production project)


Considering the significant impact of the achievements in SGP?s ?Yakhkesh alternative livelihoods and increased manure production project? (IRA-G52-2003-032), on the perspective of the local authorities and imminent policy impact, the following request for enhanced documentation/ communication material of this project and

maintenance of the biogas units built in the GEF/SGP Yakhkesh Biogas Project (IRA-G52-2002-022) was approved by the NSC on 16 August 2005.


Summary of activities


The activities for this project are:

1. Enhance the documentations of project IRA-G52-2003-032 so that they can be presented at the international arena hence:

a. The post production of film of the project will include bilingual narration and English subtitles. Extra filming will be required to enhance the quality of the footage available.

b. The booklet on lessons learned in IRA-G52-2003-032 will be translated to English.


2. Two extra books will be produced in this project for expanding the model and policy impact:

a. A book by Dr Yakhkeshi on the integrated agro-forestry management model (2000 copies)
b. The Summary of 5 thesis using this model as their case study with a one page abstract in English for each thesis (500 copies).


3. Maintenance of the biogas units and baths of Yakhkesh and Pachet Villages which is to be completed by Oct 2005 in the SGP Yakheksh Biogas project (IRA-G52-2002-022).
