Addressing poaching and bushfires at Udzungwa National Park
Areas around Udzungwa National Park are affected by uncontrolled activities of farming, hunting, logging and collection of honey. These activities lead to extensive deforestation, destruction of the ecosystems, and destruction of animals? natural habitats and loss of biodiversity. Additionally, use of fire for hunting and smoke for honey collection bring about wildfires, which cause further degradation of natural resources. ECAMO believes that these practices are brought about by ignorance. Therefore, with community sensitization, these practices can be highly reduced and hence reverse the trend of degradation in and around the National Park. This park is most important as it is home to the white rhinos, which are endangered specie.
