Community zoning and special protection area project in Catuane by making a baseline assessment on the conservation needs and use of natural resources in the area
The project aims to establish a baseline assessment on the conservation needs and use of natural resources in Catuane area, and collect relevant information for a community natural resource management planning for Catuane area to be implemented by the villagers. It will combine planning on adequate resource use, and its protection from externals, use good practices, and demonstration activities by local people. Community scouts will also contribute to conserve a natural area with the characteristics of the ?Maputaland?. A community management structure will be put in place, and it will collaborate with other partner agencies, and local administrative structures in safeguarding the local resources. The project demonstration activities will give focus to alternative livelihoods, and income generation by the community, and also on capacity building at local level on community organization.

The primary project benefits are the preservation of wildlife resources of the Catuane area, and also the opportunities given to poor communities, with low income, and scarce subsistence means to develop their livelihood support activities.
