Development and management of sustainable coastal tourism project in southern Mozambique by developing an organizational framework on the coastal tourism sector in the three southern provinces of Mozambique (Inhambane, Gaza, and Maputo)
The coastline of southern Mozambique was defined as a priority area for the development of coastal tourism. It is characterized by a mosaic of coastal and marine ecosystems with high productivity and unique beauty with coastal sand dunes, sandy and rocky beaches, mangrove and coral reef communities, and coastal forests. It is rich in biodiversity. Both local communities and the growing tourism industry are potential threats to its preservation. Unmeasurable benefits are sourced from this region resources in benefit of communities, and tourism developers.

The project aims to develop an organizational framework on the coastal tourism sector in Marracuene, Bilene, Tofo, Barra, Tofinho, and Jangamo areas of the three southern provinces of Mozambique (Inhambane, Gaza, and Maputo). It will contribute to revert the current scenario of land disputes in development of tourism activities, the overexploitation of coastal, and marine biodiversity resources, will provide alternative livelihoods for coastal communities within the project area, and raise awareness on environmental preservation.
