Cholera out of Munhava by limiting coliformes fecales pollution through construction of improved toilets
The high groundwater table of Munhava area sets it as a sensitive habitat that needs careful attention. Soil pollution, land degradation, and environmental cleanliness are major concerns for the area. Inadequate farming practices also put in risk the integrity of the area. The project will address these problems by promoting land degradation mitigation activities, through sanitation and environmental cleanliness, control of spread of cholera during the rainy season, and engagement of women groups in income generation activities. The mainly objective is to build for the neighborhoods of Mananga and Maraza 40 improved latrines and raising dressmakers groups, establishing market systems for income generation and alternative subsistence means.
The project will cover the land degradation focal area through sustainable land management activities to be undertaken by Mananga and Maraza communities. AMACO role will be that of facilitating community and local interventions, by organizing local structures, promoting liaison of communities with various project stakeholders, raising environmental awareness on the need to protect the environment, and by developing market systems for local products.
