Women of the Waters: promoting integration and participation through ecoturism in the Cerrado
Mulheres das Águas: promovendo a integração e participação pelo ecoturismo no Cerrado
São João d?Aliança is a small municipality with approximately 9 thousand inhabitants. The University of Brasília diagnosed poor quality of water consumed by several rural communities and degraded Cerrado and riparian woods. The municipality is part of the of the Chapada dos Veadeiros, a plateau whose central municipalities form a pole of tourism with the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park as the main attraction. However, São João d?Aliança is not on the established route of tourism, despite its great potential, e.g. waterfalls, canyons, rivers and preserved culture.
This project seeks to form a structure and implement an ecotourism development plan for the municipality of São João d?Aliança in a participative manner. Specific project objectives include an inventory of potential attractions; capacity-building for landowners and young adults in town in topics of hosting guests; a catalog of tourist attractions; installation of necessary services and a micro-credit system to make small businesses feasible
