TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE DOCUMENTATION WORKSHOP FOR SIERRA MADRE PARTNERS
TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE DOCUMENTATION WORKSHOP FOR SIERRA MADRE PARTNERS
Traditional Knowledge is precious to indigenous communities and the society because it can be used for the common good. A positive acknowledgement of this knowledge and its contribution to mankind encourages preservation and practice. To ensure that this knowledge is not lost and can be passed on to the next generation, it is important that the trainers and communities be given support to do this.

The project is seeking support to initiatives towards Traditional Knowledge documentation. This involves the conduct of a workshop on Traditional Knowledge Documentation among the NGO partners operating in the Sierra Madre. They will be trained to document these and shall spearhead efforts towards the preservation of these knowledge.

The project will help provide a platform for the discussion and generation of a better understanding of the role of TK in the Sierra Madre and also raise the level of awareness on the importance of the TK in sustainable development and resource management. Proceedings of the conference will be documented and results will be distributed to various agencies.

Project Characteristics and Results
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Although there is a plenitude of researches on different Indigenous People's group in the area, very few materials chronicle or document traditional knowledge and indigenous systems and practices. Lastly, it is just as relevant to study IP leadership and indigenous practices and laws in terms of land ownership, beliefs systems, natural resources management, and sustainable development.
Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
Despite international and national recognition and appreciation of indigenous peoples and the growing interest on traditional cultural knowledge's contribution to sustainable development there exist a number of challenges that this proposal would like to address.
