The project seeks to promote integrated land use management through the conservation, management and sustainable harvesting of forest resources and products in the Ozonahi Conservancy, in order to improve the ecological status of the area and the lives of its residents.

Natural resources in the Ozonahi Conservancy are currently harvested in a manner which is not sustainable and which poses a threat to the existence of both the natural resource base and people. Studies carried out recently indicate that veldt conditions in the area have deteriorated over time due to heavy grazing, trampling and bush encroachment. For those resources that are communally used (e.g. forest products), policy, legislation and its enforcement have been lacking in terms of ensuring the sustainability of the resource base. The project will introduce a comprehensive and systematic management system that will ensure sustainable harvesting of the forest products, maximise benefits to a greater number of community members, and restore management responsibility to the community. The community will have greater say over the management and harvesting of the resources and they will benefit directly from their own efforts. Such benefits will also give incentive to the resource users to apply social, institutional and financial sustainability measures.

Ozonahi Conservancy is situated east of Waterberg Park Plateau and borders with commercial conservancies in the south and north. It is also situated west of the emerging communal conservancies of Okamatapati, Okondjatu and Otjituuo. The project is in the Otjozondjupa Region, Okakarara Constituency
