At the time of the project EIA practices has not been instituionalised despite the requirements of the Environment Act and the Regulation on EIA. The database and conceptual framework were yet tp be established and awareness about EIA was low among public enterprises, private sector, local authorities and NGOs.
The project organised a training programme involving more than 70 people, representatives from government agencies, local administrations, industry, private sector, academic institutions and mostly NGOs bearing in mind their overall role in the EIA. Bringing together various actors, the project has been instrumental in exchanging information and experience on EIA and has supported the implementation of the EIA legislation in Turkey.
