The project purpose is to conserve the Ngono River Catchment areas through addressing the effects of bush fires, water sources protection and income generating activities. The project will cover about 13000 households with a population of about 59,000 people in three wards of Kasharunga, Mabunda and Magata-Karutanga respectively. The project will improve forestation and afforestation in fishing communities, from fire prevention teams, address forming practice at river banks and establish income generating activities respectively. Ngono river is one of the tributaries of Kagera river which contributes 45% of the lake runoff. Ngono contributing 2.14% of the above figure. Ngono river catchment is currently threatened by a number of factors including, intensive deforestation for fish drying and energy, agricultural practice at the river banks and uncontrolled bush fires in the dam catchment areas.
