Artificial Mass Production of Cat fish (clarias garipepinus) for longline fishery in Lake Victoria
Artificial Mass Production of Cat fish (clarias garipepinus) for longline fishery in Lake Victoria
Ukerewe Island is very popular for fishing. Various types of fish are harvested including very small species to the giants Nile Perces. In order to catch Nile Perches the fishers in most cases use the cat fish (clarias gariepinus) to attract them to their nets. This project will produce the catfish for both the fishers at a young age as well as for the consumers at latter age. And by so doing, it will minimize the number of catfish which are endangered by juvenile collectors from the lake.

This project will also contribute to sustainable biodiversity conservation in Lake Victora and community income generation.
