The proponent will assist the CBO to protect and preserve the biodiversity, significantly the Queen Alexandra Birdwing butterfly ( ornithoptera alexandrae) found only withIN that project area and conserve the environment and manage the development of the natural resources through eco tourism activities.

The proponent will focus on activities to develop a sustainable management plan for the area. The project area has been declared by the national government Department for Environment and Conservation, a biodiversity "hot spot", in its 1992 Conservation Needs Assessment Report of the country. The "hot spots" refer to areas of high and diverse flora and fauna yet to be assessed and recorded and these areas are also potential for large scale operations like logging and oil palm plantations, as is the current threat to the project site.

The NGO as part of its activities will establish a ranch for the Queen Alexandra Birdwing Butterfly, develop a sustainable management plan, conduct eco-schools touring and traings on tour guide. The proponent anticipates to establish linkages with the national government Department for Environment and Conservation, Tourism Promotion Authority, NGOs and the community to secure technical expertise and mobilise resources to support it to implement the project with the CBO.

The project recieved its first disbursement and is currently under implementation.
