the tsunami disaster in 2004 devastated the natural environment in the project area including the sea shore, lagoon, the coastal plants, mangroves , boat parking places etc., thus making the community avulnerable group of people for future disaster and also made them to undergo untold sufferings in their daily life.this has necessiated a project programme of this nature to assist the people to equip themselves to overcome the sufferings snd prepare to reduce the effects of Tsunami disaster.
the main objective of this programme is to entrust conservation and development of the coastal and lagoon mangrove area with villagers, reside in the area by enhancing them to take active in re-plantion of mangrove and beach bushes in their vicinity.other than that under the programme it is also planned to provide toilet facilities, boat landing parks and beach and lagoon pollution prevention with the participatin of the community who live in the pemises. this is to inculcate sustainability value in the environmental protection and Development amongst the people in the area for their own protection and development ans also to lessen their effect of future disaster like Tsunami in the lived of people in the project aera.

Project Characteristics and Results
Capacity - Building Component
1. Conscientising on the gravity of nature conservation on human life and especially on fisherfolk's livelihoods. 2. Education on coast bush and mangrove plantation from the time of nursery up to re-plantation and management by practical training. 3. Enhancement of women, school teachers, and students would train them to continue resource management unaided. 4. Empower women and school children's (organic) home gardening by the economic development programme. 5. Leadership training would give confidence to take initiation in any village development.
Inovative Financial Mechanisms
1. Subsidiary income generation by the project, increased the village economy. 2. Home gardening for school students will be helpful in further income generation. 3. Mangrove,lagoon and coast conservation would also increase fishermen's income.
