Project Characteristics and Results
Capacity - Building Component
Awareness programmes have been conducted and thus the knowledge on tsunami response have increased amongst the community members.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Even though the majority of the polpulation of Sri Lanka are women, not even 20% of them work in the governtment sector. This is due to the lack of confident decision making of women.
In order to build confidence amongst them, to make the right decision to take care of herself and her family, the project has concentrated on training a selected number of women from all three areas to be self-employed. They will also be given low interest loans to help them with carrying out their work such as sewing, coir weaving etc.
