Model housing for selected tsunami affected community members in Nagoda Handiya, Kalutara District by Derana Foundation.
The project concentrates on uplifting the living standards of the fisheries community of the area by, building relaxation buildings, playgrounds for the children, equipping the fishermen with fishing nets, boats etc, and building fisheries organizations for the benefit of the fishermen and their families.
Also, programmes which promote self employment will be carried out in order to reduce poverty in this area.
The project also concentrates on conserving the coastal area, especially its bio diversity. The main activity which will be carried out to fulfill this focal point will be the plantation of 1000 mangrove plants in the coastal line.

Gender Focus
Since the project deals with the fisheries families as a whole, there will be no specific gender focus.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
The project hopes to carry out programmes which promote self employment, and to build up a fisheries company which assists the fishermen in selling their products.
The project also hopes to train the young adults to become tourist guides as this area is famous for its tourism.
