Integrating biogas system in Mumias sugar zone for poverty alleviation and environmental conservation
Integrating biogas system in Mumias sugar zone for poverty alleviation and environmental conservation
Butere-Mumias District being Sugar cane growing Zone, communities have concentrated in sugar plantation that there is less priority given to growing trees for even households energy consumption. The few trees available are therefore over-exploited for among other things wood fuel. The main project will therefore install biogas system for household cooking to selected households, which will be learning grounds for replication. The survey will look at the number of animals at household, the water situation, the rate of usage of wood fuel in household's energy requirements and how many of the households with animals are interested in Biogas project. Of interest will also be to find out lessons learnt from the failed biogas systems that had earlier been funded or started by community members on their own, and more so to develop benchmarks for the main project.

Because this is a planning grant, the group did not provide any co-financing.
