Traditional Knowledge Documentation
Target Population/Location of project:
300 people residing in nine provinces of Northeastern Thailand. Project members belong to 10 ethnic minority groups, including the Lao, Yor, Phuthai, Kalerng, Saek, Soe, Thaibru, Laophuan, Kui and Thaidam tribes. The grantee was one of the Asian CBOs/NGOs who participated in IPGRI?s 2004 training on traditional knowledge in Sarawak.
Objectives:
1. Enhance the biodiversity of the project location
2. Disseminate traditional knowledge on management of natural resources
Planned activities:
1. Formulate and confirm plans with target population
2. Build project members? technical capacity re:
? Compilation of natural resource inventories
? Collection and preservation of species
? Documentation of traditional natural resource management techniques
3. Organize forums for systematic natural resource management
Anticipated outputs:
1. Creation of a collaborative ?action plan? by communities, local CBOs and other major stakeholders
2. Compilation of natural resource inventories for all participating locations
3. Emergence of community-scale working groups
4. Increase in target population?s technical capacity for natural resource management
5. Development of the following:
? Local museums on traditional management techniques for enhancing biodiversity
? Documentation of local natural resources
? Local curriculum on natural resource management
