Pagpapayabong ng Kagubatan Para sa Proteksyon ng Lake Sebu, Lowoel Water Falls, Mga Hayop Gubat at Kaming Mga Katutubong T?boli na Direktang Nauugnay sa Kalikasan

The project will undertake activities to conserve, rehabilitate, and regenerate the depleting biodiversity resources of the Lake Sebu. Under this project the establishment of nursery centers for seeds treatment and propagation to replant the denuded mountains surrounding Lake Sebu.A sustainable livelihood project like reproduction of wild orchids, vegetable gardening and handicraft making will also be a component of this project.

Project Characteristics and Results

Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples

Develop a community organization of the T?boli tribe which will be equipped with the technical knowledge and information that will serve them for the upliftment and securities of their own communities and future generations

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

Establish an income generating livelihood projects that will lessen the pressure of the local market against the basic needs of the indigenous communities of the T?boli tribe.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

Provide assistance to the national and local governments to make the T?boli Indigenous Community as an ecologically and environmentally sound tourist destination

Notable Community Participation

The indigenous peoples (T/boli) will be responsible for establishing seed and seedling centers that will become a source of energy for the rehabilitation and regeneration of different species of life depleting in the areas surrounding the Lake Sebu.

Policy Impact

The project will produce and popularize information materials for the world to know that the community of the T?boli tribe is also a home of wild orchids and endemic species of birds. This is through the establishment of livelihood project which will work for the regeneration and production of wild orchids and other forms of ornamental plants.

Capacity - Building Component

Thur various trainings, the T'boli tribe will build environmentally sound community where the character of productiveness, assertiveness, and creativeness became the cultural practices to reap the true meaning of peace, justice, and sustainable development.

Project Results

Outputs of the Project: Five Hundred Thousand of seedlings are duly propagated and planted to reduce the siltation of the soils from the degraded forest mountain areas to the shore of the Lake Sebu; Three People Organizations of Farmers, Women and Youths are well organized and registered with the Cooperative Development Authority or in the Securities and Exchange Commission; 95% of the Flora and Fauna species found in the perimeter areas of the project are well counted and documented; Information on the historical ethnographic root of the T?boli Indigenous People are well written and documented; Achieved support, recognition, and attention of concerned agencies both government and private, local, national, and international.
