Restoration of Rangelands in the North-Eastern Part of Tanat Village (Rehabilitation of the degraded pastures to the north-eastern part of Tanat village through establishment of artificial water source for watering cattle and use the area as pastures, involvement of the local communities into pasture rational use activities)
Tanat village is located in the eastern part of the country. Population is 800 people; 17 farming facilities are located here. They own 6500 hectares of pastures. The problem is that the pastures are intensively exhausted from year to year, as the cattle is constantly grazed on the same pastures. The main criteria for choosing pastures is water availability.

Now there?s a strong need for rehabilitation of the pastures being used for so long time. There are pastures round the village, where there is a dense herbage, but there are no watering places for the cattle. In this connection it is necessary to drill a well to create artificial source of water. This will allow to create a dormant period of the degraded pastures for 4-5 years and will promote their restoration.

The purpose of the project is restoration of the degraded pastures to the north-east of Tanat village by developing new pastures.

The project tasks are: (i) to establish a pond system for cattle to the southwest of the village, (ii) to develop new pastures for creation of dormant period and restoration of the degraded pastures, (iii) to lead information campaign among local community.

The results of the project are going to be as follows:
-a green protection belt for 2 km will be established in the northeast part of the village to protect it against the sand storms
-400 saplings of pyramidal poplar will be planted
-on the southwest part of the village 1 chink will be drilled, 1 pump and pond system for cattle will be established
-new pastures will be opened up for grazing cattle.
