Sustainable land use on the territory of Abay area of the Eastern Kazakhstan (Development and implementation of the plan of sustainable pasture use on the territory of Sarzhal district with active participation of the local community).
The village Sarzhal is located in the East Kazakhstan area. 2150 people live there, 73 farming facilities are placed there. Tradition common for the area is cattle breeding, in particular, horse breeding. Last years one of the serious problems is pastures degradation due to non-observance of traditional rules of the pasturing: it is quite spontaneously.

The consequence of the problem is change of quantity and quality of herbage on pastures, which leads to frequent diseases among the cattle and decrease in relative density. The farmers are not familiar with the key rules of the catle breeding, technologies of seasonal pasture use in view of geographical, biological and climatic conditions.

The purpose of the project is to develop and introduce the plan of sustainable pastures tenure on the territory of Sarzhal rural area by means of development of a special program and plan for pasture use, information of local community about the measures, implementation of mechanism for the cattle breeding monitoring.

To involve local community into the project activity, meetings will be organized in the village with participation of local authorities, local residents and farmers. Then a working group will be set up amongst them Local experts, like agriculturists, livestock specialists will be involved to share knowledge and render consultation in the rules of the cattle breeding. Local community will participate in drawing up of the program and schedule for carrying out of meetings with farmers, also will take part in discussions, distribution of information materials under the developed program of observance of traditional rules of the cattle breeding. Each farming company will be individually engaged in planning the cattle breeding. The developed program and the plan for its realization will be approved by the local Akimat. Further public control over realization of the pastures sustainable use plan will be established.
