Rehabilitation of the degraded lands and improvement of socio-ecological situation in Sergeevka village of Atbasar area (Rehabilitation of the degraded lands round Sergeevka village through beekeeping development as the way to increase productivity of pastures, implementation of the awareness raising activities about land degradation issues among local communities and instilling the system of the remote pastures cattle grazing into practice)
Sergeevka settlement is located in a steppe zone near to Ishym river. Some parts of the lands round the village are presented by brackish soils. Due to the meadows have been ploughed up in 80th, the ecosystem of the soils has got broken, the grasses adapted for the soils have disappeared. Here and there salt has appeared on the surface of the ground, the vegetative cover is presented mainly by a wormwood. When the winds blow erosion of the soil fertile layer occurs.

The purpose of the project is to restore the degraded soils and improve socio-ecological situation in Sergeevka settlement through development of beekeeping as the way to raise pastures productivity and improve local community livelihood, implementation of the raising awareness activities, in the area of land degradation and improvement of environmental situation in Sergeevka settlement, organization of remote pastures cattle grazing to create a dormant period for the degraded soils.

Within the project framework reseeding of the grasses will take place. This will lead to enrichment of natural herbage of pastures and haymakings with valuable kinds of perennials, which in its turn will raise efficiency of pastures. Further a part of the grass can be mowed for forage, and the rest one will be cultivated for seeds.

Further the apiary will be purchased. On the one hand, it will allow to raise productivity of the degraded soils. On the other one, it will promote increasing employment among the local community members and could become additional income sources for them. As the sowed grasses start blossom since the second year, the apiary will be placed on the wild-growing lands. That will allow local community members to get honey in the first year of the project and realize practical training of beekeepers.
