Local community participation in pastures conservation and land degradation preventive activities by means of crops forage and creation of forest shelter belts (Rehabilitation of the degraded lands of the Talaskyi district through implementation of a series of pastures conservation and land degradation preventive activities, implementation of the awareness raising measures about land degradation issues among local communities)
Shakirov settlement is located in semi-desert zone. The main problem for inhabitants of the village is lack of water for irrigation. The sowing grounds round the village are degraded, the sown area doesn?t yield harvest because of its strong salinity. Besides, uncontrolled cattle grazing aggravates the situation. Due to mass unemployment of the population felling of the forest belts takes place.

The purpose of the project is to ensure local community participation in preservation of pastures, reduction of land degradation processes and soils salinity by means of sowing forage crops and creation of forest shelter belts. Within the project sowing of forage crops on the area of 10 hectares will be organized, green shelter belts lengthways the atyks will be planted with active participation of local community will be arranged.

Expected results are
-Increasing of forage productivity
-Improvement of pastures
-Decreasing land degradation processes
-Reduction of wind erosion
-Creation of forest shelter belts length and breadth of aryks (3000 saplings of poplar will be planted)
-Establishing of aryk system with extension of 500 meters to supply 10 hectares of pastures with water
-Local community are active participants of the project
