Income Generation and Environment Conservation Through NTFP/Herbs Management in Doti District
Income Generation and Environment Conservation Through NTFP/Herbs Management in Doti District
Agricultural production and productivity of Doti district is one of the lowest in Nepal. Traditional farming and dependency on natural resources have resulted in rapid degradation of physical and biological environment. Traders have encouraged the local people for illegal collection and selling of local herbs at cheaper price thereby making the commercially valued herbs locally endangered and threatened. The present need is to strengthen and continue herbs cultivation and NTFPs collection in private and community forests and involve local poor people, particularly the women and the disadvantage people in managing biodiversity and improve their living standard through the sustainable use of locally available biological resources. The main objectives of the project were to conserve the degraded forests and improve the socio-economic conditions of the community forestry user groups through conservation and management, cultivation, sustainable harvesting, and processing of NTFPs/MAPs of the community forests and private land.
