Promotion of Organic Fertilizer & Bio-pesticides for Land & Environment Conservation
Unsustainable land use management and excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticide are the pertinent causes of land degradation in the mountain agriculture. The short term increase in agriculture production with the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticide has attracted many farmers leaving the soil to further degradation. The condition is even more severe in the sloping land where soil loss is high due to rain and wind. Thus the project tries to introduce organic farming which also include use of bio-pesticide to replace chemical fertilizers and pesticide in Parbat district of central Nepal. The intervention is expected to serve dual purposes- conserve the soil and produce organic food for good human health. It is seen that initial investment and encouragement to farmers are necessary as the immediate return from organic farming is less in compare to the farming using chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
