Gaja Forest and Development Project
The Gaja Forest, which covers over 2500 hectares of land, is located at an altitude of 1800 to 2950 meter at Baglung district of Nepal and also consist the Natural Lake called ?Gaja Daha?which is approximately 1.4 ha. The Daha is situated within Gaja ridge, which is also home for various species diversity. Despite the forest land, the agriculture land below is very prone to landslide and a giant landslide occurred couple of years ago has washed out significant agriculture land. The landslide is expanding threatening nearby villages. The main objective of the project is to protect and manage the watershed in the Gaja area by mitigating the landslide through locally available and economic viable resources. It also tries to improve the habitat of rare and endangered species by reducing pressure on forest and enhancing the livelihood though the income generating activities.
