Suak Pandan is 400 Ha among 13 villages that were hardest it on the west coast. The population is 443 people (158 households) consisting of 190 men and 181 women. Like the its neighboring villages, SSGF supports the establishment of a community-owned building for community gathering.

Under the coordination of Local Community Economy Institution (Lembaga Economy Masyarakat-LEM), SSGF grants support microfinance packages for women?s groups for small food vendors, 25 sets of collectively owned fishing gear and the establishment and operation of a community workshop for handicrafts and small scale woodwork.

LEM Office was already established and the management team was already selected for the area. SSGF supported activities include strengthening community group capacity. In this village, LEM Suak Pandan, with mentorship from Yayasang Pembangunan Kawasan, faces the challenge of unsettled residence. Not all of the remaining community members have returned to the village and live in the new housing. The economy is not yet running at full speed. Violation of agreement within LEM members in receiving aid directly without reporting or coordinating with LEM management is disrupting the community life dynamic. There is a need to coordinate with donor agencies and the reconstruction body in respect of community?s decision to strengthen their collective capacity in helping themselves and in making the current overflow of funding bear sustainable results.
