Traditional and Modern Techniques of Water Purification at Community and Household Levels at Eppawala by Green Movement of Sri Lanka
Rationale: The under ground water in the area is hard with high concentration of fluoride. these fluorides containing drinking water cause discolouration of teeth especially among children. skeletal fluorosis in the also a common problem when fluoirdes are absorbed in to the hunman system in excessive amounts alos if the fluoride concentration is less than 0.5ppm then it affects the teeth. Therefore it is imperative to maintain the fluoride concentration at optimum levels.
Objectives: to prepare an inventory of traditional /indigenous knowledge on sustainable methods of water purification and use such resources to generate options to solve the water contamination problem to draw up the programme to implement bets options to fabricate and popularize the available purification units.
Activities: Awareness programmes on water sanitation and health effects, selecting best options for the programme through feasibility studies on previous researches.
