Reduction of pressure on ecosystem of Sarychelek reserve by organizing alternative livelihood, processing wild fruits and berries, by developing ecotourism in buffer zone of Karasuu village.
This region's geographical peculiarity is that there is not enough land to carryout agricultural activities and therefore the major activity in this region is the cattle-breeding. The local population keeps mostly not sheep but goats due to its capability to produce more flock. And the goats can graze on the rocks. The overgrazing of goats has lead to the degradation of the gorge and the mountains. The local population is not aware of the lonf term damages that can be coused to the environment if the irrational use of pastures is not stopped. This in is turn can cause economic problems also. However, since the goats are the main living to most of the people the NGO "Ecotourism Sarychelek" had to come up with the real alternative to this activity to reduce the pressure on the environment. There are numerous fruits that grown in this area and this advantage was to be used. The fruits and berry processing farm was aknowledged to be most proper way to fight the degradation. The livestock of people had to be decreased to reduce the pressure on the pastures and let them rehabilitate. Since the population cannot fight with it on its own the NGO in the course of the project has to inform the people about the global environmental problems, about the alternative activities. The seminars and round table with the local population was identified to be the most effective way to achieve this goal. In the rehabilitation measures the nursery is going to be organized and the "green partol" is going to guard the most effected territory. The fruits and berry processing factory is going to established to provide the alternative activities for people. And also since this NGO has partner project with TACIS project it is going to develop ecotourism and is going to improve guest houses and have supporting media and information products. The activities during the course of the project are going to be supported with information campaign.
