SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT OF BIODIVERSITY RESOURCES IN NYANDORO VILLAGE, MUDZI DISTRICT
background
the project is located in Nyandoro village a riverine community that is situated at the extreme southeastern corner of Mudzi district. this project seeks to achieve sustainable management of biodiversity resources in Nyandoro village and its environs. The eradication of the tsetse fly menace, population migration to the lower Rwenya area due to gold panning activities along the river and the resultant increase in the huaman population in Nyandoro and adjacent villages in Nyanga district have resulted in increased human population pressure on biodiversity resources. the threat to sustainable management of biodiversity has been compounded by droughts that have forced households to cultivate plots close to the river in search of moisture.

1. strengthening the capacity of the nyandoro village community to manage biodiversity resources in a sustainable manner
2. diversification of household livelihood options through strategies that reduce over exploitation of biodiversity.

1. practice conservation agriculture
2. engage in apiculture
3.engage in crafting.

1. conservation agriculture practices adopted
2. jatropha is planted in degraded areas long the rwenya river
3. commercial beekeeping projects established
4.by laws developed for management of natural resources
5. increased commercialization of crafts and basketry
6.crafts and basketry centers established
