Rationale:the leaching problem of agrochemicals into the groundwatertable has had a significant impact on ground water quality in the Kalpitiya Peninsula. while the chemical an mechanical means to mitigate the contamination are expensive and unwieldy, the biolgical means to reduce such contamination is ggaining increasing impetus.

bi-annual meetings will be held in each Grama niladhari Division to create awareness about the project, phytoremediation, health impactsetc.
Notable Community Participation
the community has been consulted from the begiginig of the project.25 farmers whose drinking wells were associated with the first phase were selected and will continue thier activities in the second phase.
